Right Wing Glurge Spam - Political Correctness

I said SPAM, motherfucker!

Sometimes you don't know someone's political leanings until you land on their "hay, this iz funny!" forward list. And even after that, you still respect them. After all, how else are you going to know what sorts of ultra-pseudo-patriotic, right-wing "librulz r crap" emails are going around?

This came from one of those friends:
The following is the 2007 winning entry from an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's term was Political Correctness.

The winner wrote,
"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
Hahaha. Oh, those righties.

Unfortunately, it has not yet hit Snopes.com, but the first pieces are, unsurprisingly, unverifiable. The Texas A&M website is void of any reference to turds, save one that has nothing to do with the supposed contest. I've also looked at over a dozen blog and web posts of this quote: none of them link to an actual contest and most actually refer to a forwarded email. Good show, folks.

Note to self: Make up quote that quips on the definition of the Constitution or some such fodder that pokes at righties then disseminate quote by emailing a liberal who is known to flagrantly forward unjustified emails to others who will do the same.

Note to self: Make friends with a liberal who is known to flagrantly forward unjustified emails to others who will do the same, should such be found to exist.

I love that political correctness definition!

Thanks!

I guess uneducated sycophants would. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the comment!

About as educated a sycophant as one that would list his astrological sign on his bio page as if it actually meant something. How is life in your mother's basement?

Canoebutt-
Sorry to disappoint, but I own my own home and my own business.

One of the things I tend to discuss from time to time is the technical ineptitude of conservatives. Thank you for proving my point.

For your education and benefit: Google inserts the astrological sign if you input your birthday as an obfuscation of the actual birth date.

Also: your attack, which is generally referred to as ad hominem means you have no argument against ideas and resort to attacking the person. But as we've already covered, you cannot even do that correctly.

Remove yourself from the Limbaugh man-teat and speak intelligently about things you actually understand. People might take you seriously.

Got the Texas A&M "political correctness" e-mail today, thought I'd check Snopes, then a few pages of Google search results, found your April '08 post. Liked it, and your reponses to the appropriately-named CanoeButt.
Thought I'd send a thanks, and saw you're in Cincy. I left involuntarily when I was 11, but I still call it home.

A conservative is merely a former liberal who's been mugged. Hey, while you're all still laughing, research "Frankfurt School" for the origins of the term "political correctness". I guarantee you won't be laughing anymore, not even at conservatives.

One view (mine): Political correctness started out as basic politeness and civility -- a verbal manifiestation, however overdone, of the golden rule -- refrain from belittling and denigrating others as you would have them refreain from belittling and denigrating you. Now it is mostly a figment of fevered right-wing imaginations.

Interesting that you accept - no, claim - political correctness as a liberal trait. "Thinking for myself," I don't see left or right identified in the quote.

Ricky Shambles said...

Anon- I don't claim anything unfounded; the definition is obviously pointed at making fun of liberals as anyone with any knowledge of political shenanigans can tell. The use of "unscrupulous mainstream media" in definition is more than enough.

But I certainly would never put PC solely in the camp of liberals. The suddenly-bleeding hearts of the righties over the straw man of a community center 2 blocks from Ground Zero will happily fit in a PC box. Not that conservatives would ever call it that.

The oldest reference I can find to this is from January 22, 2007 on the USENET newsgroup misc.writing by someone who identified himself under the nick "Very Busy Guy."

This makes me strongly suspect that Very Busy Guy was the creator of the definition and deliberately fabricated both the contest and the reference in order to give it a veneer of credibility.

Anon- nice digging. That's about what I supposed, just without the dates. Thanks!

Is it offensive to joke about a wealthy American buying an island in the pacific and all the people on the island too?

You're going to have to help me a little more on that one; your question makes no sense.
