Revolutionary France and the US were thick as thieves at one time. Plus France owned a big chunk of what is now the southern US. But I don't know enough geography to know if Iowa is anywhere near that! Could Iowa have been explored by French explorers? Or maybe they're just big copycats and stole the French flag colours for their own, LOL!
